The business case for utilizing a diverse supplier base is well known and stems from the realization that minority populations are growing nearly 7 times as fast as the majority population. Therefore, the utilization of capable, high quality, minority-owned companies is not a moral obligation but rather an economic one.
As large companies continue to focus on expanding market share, the realization that customer bases are becoming ever more diverse is clear. “Minorities” are the majority in six out of the eight largest metropolitan areas of the Unites States. The combined African-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-American buying power is more than $750 billion dollars annually and women are the primary investors in more than half of U.S. households.
Therefore, the employment of a diverse suppliers base can help companies to better understand their customers, identify their needs, and assist in the development of strategies for approaching new markets and opportunities. In addition, purchasing agents and other decision makers in client organizations are becoming increasingly more diverse and they will be more apt to strongly consider how and with whom a company does business. Potential client companies are frequently asking about an organization’s diversity record before making a commitment to do business. As markets continue to diversify both domestically and internationally, few companies can expect to gain or maintain meaningful access without employing a supplier strategy that reflects the diversity of the marketplace.
Agilis is a minority owned lessor with a diverse employee base. We believe that corporations should consider utilizing a diverse supplier base because it makes good business sense. Nonetheless, we believe that our value proposition is as compelling as any within the leasing industry—and that alone is what we hang our hat on.
However, as a practical matter, we do recognize that our minority-status can have incremental value for our corporate clients and we are happy to discuss those additional benefits upon request.
